PICS can operate without interfacing to an accounting system.  But, for the most power possible, PICS contains an interface to QuickBooks.  You can load PICS initially with information from QuickBooks to save input time, then periodically update QuickBooks from PICS with customers, item inventory, vendors, invoices, purchase orders, payments and time tracking.
