Q. Is PICS a web based or server based program? A. PICS is a server based program. It can be accessed through the internet if configured properly.
Q. What are the system requirements? A. For the single user system, PICS requires a Windows XP workstation with a Pentium 4 processor and minimum 512 MB memory. For the multi-user system, PICS requires a properly configured Windows 2003 Server running with Terminal Services. The configuration of the server depends on the number of users. If you purchase PICS with the server option, you will receive PICS already installed on a Dell Server ready to plug in and go. In the multi-user system, the workstations do not actually have software installed. The workstations use RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) to connect to the server as a terminal. The workstation can be a Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP or MAC (System 10) computer. The connection can be made locally or via the internet. For 1 to 20 users, PICS will use Microsoft Access as the database management system. For 20+ users, PICS will use SQL Server 2000 for data storage, and Microsoft Access for the user interface.
Q. Can I (or my MIS department) customize PICS for my operations? A. Yes. With the Software Developer Kit(SDK) you will receive the MDB file for form and report customization.
Q. Does PICS offer critical path scheduling? A. PICS does not offer critical path scheduling, what it does is calculate the earliest start dates and earliest finish dates for tasks based on durations, material delivery dates, and finish to start dependencies.
